Public Safety Coordinator
REPORTS TO:
Sr. VP of Operations
SUPERVISES:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Sr. Vice President of Operations, the Public Safety Coordinator is responsible for administering the Center City Commission’s public safety programs to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for Downtown visitors, residents, and business people.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serves as liaison between the CCC and downtown businesses, residents, commercial investors, redevelopment entities, private security organizations, and public safety agencies on issues of Downtown safety and security.
Oversees implementation of the CCC's responsibilities in the Strategic Security Plan for the Downtown Entertainment District as well as other public space management plans.
Develops and implements strategies for ensuring the safety of all people and property in Downtown.
Employs crime analysis techniques to track crime and safety developments and to anticipate and forecast preemptive and reactive strategies.
Continually assesses the Downtown’s public spaces, private property and businesses employing the concepts of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), the creation of defensible space and situational crime control.
Coordinates public safety dialogue among all Downtown stakeholders through regular meetings and other tactics.
Is regularly involved in development and redevelopment decisions that originate with or are coordinated through the CCC to ensure that public safety and CPTED considerations are part of the planning process.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Generate reports, documents and other tools to support Center City Commission public safety efforts.
Works with the Memphis Shelby Crime Commission, which is the CCC’s primary public safety partner.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Criminal Justice or Business Administration preferred but not required)
Five years’ experience with a full service law enforcement agency (municipal agency and urban setting preferred but not required)
Conversant with the principles of facility operations, customer service, business redevelopment and property management.
Working knowledge of the concepts of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, Defensible Space, Situational Crime Control and Crime Analysis
Possess excellent interpersonal, speaking, writing and communication skills.
Computer literacy
Strong organizational and management skills.
Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Office environment and outdoors.
Flexibility in working schedule; some holiday, night and weekend work required.
