The options to get a great education for your kids in Downtown are growing every year. In fall of 2003, three schools opened, including:
Downtown Elementary School: a public school with an optional program for grades K-6,
St. Patrick's Jubilee School:a private catholic school for grades K-6 that offers financial assistance for families in need, and
Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering: a charter school sponsored by the Memphis BioTech Corporation for grades 7-12 located on the UT Health campus.

Downtown also has the Cossitt Memphis/Shelby County Public Library which opened in 1888 as the first public library in Memphis. The library holds the Memphis and Shelby County Archives and a gallery showcasing works from instructors and students of the Memphis College of Art.
