The Food. The Gatherings. The Conversations. The People at our Table. These are the Settings, the Foundation of Culture, of Folklore. We realize we can't honestly call ourselves the Center for Southern Folklore and not include Food. Meet Miss Ella Kizzie. Her hot-water cornbread and greens will get you talking - once you've stopped eating!
Come on over to the Center and enjoy Miss Ella's famous peach cobbler and a gourmet coffee while you shop in the Folklore Store. Take a look at our special Home Made Southern Menu offerings - like lemon baked chicken drummies, yams and home made cole slaw - and serve them at your next party , business meeting or tour group .
Every year at the Memphis Music & Heritage Festival we celebrate the diversity of our region, not just with music and dance but also with food! From fry bread to challah bread and fried rice to fried pies we taste and tell at cooking demonstrations on stage and by request throughout the year.
Start the day right: grab a morning cup of Mississippi Mud (aka coffee) and conversation in the Folklore Store!
