Downtown Neighborhood Association and the South Main Association are
coordinating the most exciting, full-filled holiday program Downtown Memphis
has ever seen! Stroll city sidewalks under sparkling holiday lights!
Enjoy a whole season of family-fun events, including the MEMPHIS HOLIDAY
PARADE taking place the day after Thanksgiving in Memphis' coolest
neighborhood, The South Main Historic Arts District!

South Main Jolly Trolley Night after the
parade
The Memphis Holiday Parade is THE
signature event of the holiday season! Join thousands of families from
throughout the region to cheer on marching bands, performers, local
celebrities, dancers, and all sorts of unexpected surprises! And it's taking
place in the city's coolest, trendiest neighborhood - South Main! The Parade
will take place on a new date to ring in the holidays - Friday, November 28 -
the day after Thanksgiving! Parade will start at 5 pm march north on Main
Street from St. Paul to Huling. New fun location and great new date - the day
after Thanksgiving!
Before the parade, FM100 and WRVR 104.5 The River will have
their Make-A-Wish fundraiser in South Main. And South Main
retailers, boutiques and art galleries will have in-store family activities -
from face painting to magic shows to stilt walkers - so pack up the family and
head South to for early holiday shopping and loads of fun!
Stick around after the parade for the South Main Jolly Trolly Night,
the monthly on-the-street festival with music, entertainment and egg nog in
holiday parties lining Main Street!
Downtown Holiday sponsors will enjoy a VIP party right on South Main throughout
the day with food and refreshments, parade viewing stands and a place to rest
throughout the day!
PARKING TIPS!
MATA is offereing 25-cent shuttles from Main Street at Peabody Place to the South Main Arts District on parade day from 3 - 7 pm! During this time, trolley operation will be limited to Madison and part of Main Street. Full trolley operation will resume after the parade!
Parking is prohibited on Main Street from Webster to Huling starting Thurs, Nov 27 at 3 pm until the parade is over.

Holiday Winter Lights Flip-The-Switch Ceremony!
Friday, November 21 at 5 pm in Court Square
The Downtown Holiday Winter
Lights Committee is making the season brighter by installing
holiday lighting and displays in the heart of the city! The committee is
creating a *sparkle zone* with a beautiful lighting design in "the living
room of Downtown", Court Square, and by dressing up street poles and trees
along Main Street.
Join this special group of holiday elves to ring in the holidays in a ceremony
to flip the switch on holiday lights along Main Street and in Court Square!
Caroling and hot cocoa.
And after the ceremony, judging begins at 6 pm on the Downtown Storefront
Decorating Contest! (see below)
Downtown Storefront Decorating Contest!
Judging on Friday, November 21 at 6 pm all around Downtown
Downtown is turning into a "Window Wonderland"!
The stakes are high as Downtown retailers and businesses show off their creativity, originality and festive spirit by competing in this year's Downtown Storefront Decorating Contest!
Retailers in cities across the nation use their windows and facades as a canvas to spread cheer! In Downtown Memphis, not only will participating businesses brighten up the streets, they will compete for a winning prize of
$2,500! Judges will look at creativity, uniqueness and liberal use of lighting!
To participate, Downtown businesses must submit an application by October 24, 2008. Judging takes place on November 21 at 6 pm. Winner will be announced at the Memphis Holiday Parade on Friday, November 28!

The Center City Commission is producing 50,000 magazine-style guides highlighting holiday events and destination retail! The guides will be inserted in the
Commercial Appeal and Memphis Flyer the week before Thanksgiving. The guides will include featured products in Downtown stores, restaurant listing, and special events taking place throughout Downtown. Parking map included.
