Beale Street

Beale Street

Beale Street is revered for its influence on American music - not just the blues that bubbled up from Beale, but the music that the blues inspired. Millions of people from around the world come to Memphis just to put their feet on this hallowed street where B.B. King, Furry Lewis, Memphis Minnie, Rufus Thomas Albert King and so many other legends catapulted their careers. While you can still  hear authentic, down home blues, today’s Beale Street has grown into an electrified entertainment district full of restaurants, music venues and shops.

At one end of Beale, Broadway’s best theatre is on stage The Orpheum, and one block away, things are getting gritty in The Grindhouse (FedExForum) when Memphians cheer on our Memphis Grizzlies.  Tourists pour into the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum and the new Memphis Music Hall of Fame and discover the story of how the blues, gospel, soul and rock collided and about the musicians who made it happen.
