HILTON STREET: FROM MEMPHIS TO CHICAGO is Earnest E. Lacey’s third book regarding the journey of his family. This volume describes their life as African-Americans during the 1950’s Jim Crow era in Memphis, Tennessee and their transition to Chicago during the Great Migration. This story weaves together the interesting journey the Laceys
took: the lives they led, the struggles they endured, and ultimately, the legacy they left behind for future Lacey generations. This story includes everyday heroes who shaped young Earnest’s ethical and moral compass as a young boy. Family members, friends and teachers had a considerable imprint on his life, teaching him important lessons that have endured to this day.
