It's a new year and you want to get in shape. Here are 7 ways to step up your fitness game in Downtown Memphis!

1. Get to Running!

Downtown has 5k's, half and full marathon's throughout the year and it's time you start training!

If you're looking for a passionate and consistent running group, meet up with the Salty Dogs Running Club who run a different course every Monday at 7 pm! Meet at Bardog Tavern for a 3 - 6 miles run followed by food, drinks and camaraderie. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter.

If you're visiting Memphis or a local who wants to see our city in a new light, Rockin' Running Tours is your answer. Run a four-mile course (or a little more if you want), past some of the greatest landmarks, tourist attractions and points of interest Memphis has to offer. Along the way, you'll hear information about the history and rich culture of the city of Memphis. Tours are perfect for runners of all levels - walkers, too.

Tom Lee Park & Memphis Grizzlies RiverFit

Make your way down to Tom Lee Park and run along the mighty Mississippi! 

Side note: You can also play soccer, hop on the pull up or monkey bars, and even get an incline workout at the Grizzlies steps or Beale Street Landing.

2. Join a Gym

Hit the weights and get started on that Spring Break bod! Each neighborhood in Downtown has a gym that you can join or visit whether you live in Memphis or if you're just stopping through. You can also find personal trainers with facilities to meet your personal goals.

3. Get Intense Workouts at CrossFit

CrossFit Hit and Run was the first CrossFit gym in Downtown Memphis. Their building in South Main looks innocent from the outside, but you feel the intensity once you step in through the door. 

Bend down and pick things up, put things over your head, squat down, stand up, run, jump and bike with help from experienced coaches and fellow CrossFitters.

In The Edge/Medical District you'll find Metabolic CrossFit. You can sign up for month-to-month, 6-month, or 12-month contracts. Push your limits and be the best self you can be!

4. Walk, Run or Bike Across the Mississippi River

Step away from the tredmill and get an unbeatable view of our great city! At nearly a mile long, one round-trip across Big River Crossing is a perfect course by itselt. Not to mention you can continue your adventure on either the West Memphis, Arkansas or Memphis-side of the bridge. 

Big River Crossing is open to the public from 6 am to 10 pm, so you can start your day with a sunrise run or end it with a night bike ride along the bridge lights!

Biking in Downtown

With new bike lanes, riverside trails and beautiful scenery, Downtown is a bicycle-friendly environment where you can safely explore Memphis. Click here to view maps, learn about bike groups and more.

5. Start Yoga Classes

Sign up for regular classes at Downtown Yoga!

Whether you're a regular yogi or just starting out, Downtown Yoga has a class suited for you. The brand new Beginners Series just started, and they have classes throughout the day (pretty much every day). Your first visit is FREE if you register an account, and pricing varies depending on what you're looking for.

Need a midweek wind down? Try Bendy Brewski Yoga at High Cotton Brewing. Join other yogis for time on the mat followed by a pint. No experience necessary. Happening every Thursday from 6 -  8 pm for $15. (598 Monroe)

6. Climb at BRIDGES

Get a different style of workout and climb on at BRIDGES USA's climbing wall! Perfect for an office or friends outing, you can schedule a specific time to climb or joing other climbers at ClimBlock.
