The Downtown Memphis Commission and Memphis Food Trucks are bringing Food Truck Thursday to you this Monday on September 11 from 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m to aid hurrican Harvey relief efforts.
Make your meal count as a portion of the proceeds from each food truck will be given directly to the JJ Watt Foundation to fund hurricane Harvey relief! The category 4 hurricane made landfall on the Texas coast on August 25, and the reprecussions of this natural disaster have been catastrophic. Many families have been displaced from their homes and the recovery is expected to take years. Mark your calendars to swing by for lunch and do good in Downtown Memphis!
Entertainment will be provided by DJ Chromatic Change. Participating food trucks include: Central BBQ, El Mero Taco, Fish from heaven, MEMPopS, Memphis MoJo Cafe, Say Cheese and Yippie Trippie & The Porkstars. FRESH GULF SHRIMP wont be able to attend but will be donating to the cause. Follow on Facebook for up-tp-date details.
Say Cheese owners, Allison and Terry, collaborated with El Mero Taco owners Clarissa and Jacob Dries about how they can help the efforts in Houston. Allison, originally from Houston, wanted to directly help friends and family she saw affected by the storm.
"I lived in Houston before moving to Memphis and saw all devastion Harvey was causing," said Allison. "A lot of our friends were rescued from their homes with boats, and it scary and sad to watch. It's hard to see when you personally know people who are losing so much. This event is something we can do to help to directly help them."
"Court Square Park in Downtown is the perfect spot for us. Clarissa of El Mero and I spoke a lot about wanting the event to be successful and have high traffic. Food Truck Thursday is so great that we hope Monday will be just as beautiful. Thanks to Downtown Memphis Commission for being so helpful, and thanks to all the food trucks and our cool DJ for being part of it all. It's going to be a fantastic time in the park!"
Sink your teeth into a Triple-Decker from Say Cheese and enjoy a warm cup of homemade tomato soup on Monday in to aid hurrican Harvey relief efforts.
Allison says that if people want to help besides showing up on Monday, there are ways they can do so. "A lot of churches and organizations are doing donations. We want to encourage people do to their research of who you're donating to in order to make sure your donation is 100% going to Harvey relief efforts."
Try out El Mero Taco's Southern Fried Chicken tacos if you're on a spicy kick! We love to pair them with their Chilaquiles Verdes - El Mero Taco's own version of nachos topped with a fried egg.
If you have a sweet tooth, Mempops will also be at the event! They have a great selection of all-natural, hand crafted ice pops with a large variety of seasonal flavors.
