Current Open On Main Pop-Ups
B. Collective and Mushroom Vintage, each with unique, must-see merchandise and a chill, authentic vibe.
B. Collective is a local-only art market currently located at 147 S. Main St. and owned and operated by Memphian Bridget Ann McClusky. The idea for B Collective began when Bridget was operating Randomly Refurbished, part of the Downtown Memphis Commission's original group of pop-up shops in 2017.
During her first Open on Main experience, McClusky developed relationships with other Open on Main vendors and through that experience, developed B. Collective. McClusky focuses on getting Memphis’ best artists represented, “by an artist, for the artists,” as she cleverly explains. There are twenty Memphis artists represented in B. Collective, including local Johanna Wayland-Smith, who creates live art right in the store. She specializes in trolley art but also does skylines and beer prints too. Art happening right in front of you really adds to the genuine feel of B. Collective.
"The foot traffic Downtown really helps with business here, particularly during Downtown events, like the frequent Orpheum traffic," Wayland-Smith explained. "It really helps to be Downtown, especially during May with BBQ Fest and Music Fest. We stayed open late during that time because people would come to shop afterwards."
The art is always being rotated in B. Collective, making the shop look different week to week. They are looking to create more events in the store and collaborate with other downtown affiliates like Segway Memphis. Johanna also spoke about "adding a seasonal cart" to the shop with specific items "like for the Fourth of July."
Since Father’s Day is coming up, here are some great dad-worthy ideas from B. Collective!
For the Brew-lover, you can pick up a print or coaster with the image of his favorite local brewery and beer. Or for the I Love Memphis type (and, really, who isn't?), you'll find wooden Memphis coasters by Colton Robinson or something from the guys’ section like a hat or t-shirt.
B. Collective is open from 11 am to 7 pm Sunday through Friday and 11 am to 6 pm Saturday. Follow B. Collective on Instagram to stay in touch.
Mushroom Vintage, located at 100 Peabody Place Suite 175 (former Life Is Good location), is a funky vintage clothing store that also specializes in accessories and housewares.
This shop is run by Tipton County art teacher Reagan Crow. Crow has been collecting vintage items for years, which she describes as her “passion,” but Mushroom Vintage is fairly new, beginning on etsy and instagram only a couple years ago. Mushroom Vintage stayed online until she seized the Open On Main opportunity in November 2017, getting Mushroom Vintage started with in-person retail. Crow’s years of retail experience and pursuit of something she loves are now paying off in Downtown Memphis.
Being downtown helps Reagan Crow with “being seen,” she says. “It’s in-person, face-to-face, and people can see everything, unlike an online store.” The store is spacious with several fun, adorable set-ups of vintage merchandise. Crow describes the Mushroom Vintage pop-up well by calling it a “retro world.” She aims to reach more people and to see her business grow with this Open On Main experience.
Crow hopes to have events at the store soon like a vintage fashion show, so stay on the lookout for that. Mushroom Vintage has a few Father’s Day recommendations as well such as a throwback tee or a retro tie.
Open Tuesday through Friday from 11am to 7pm, Mushroom Vintage is a spot with cool products you must check out before the month is up. Be sure to follow them on instagram (@mushroomvintage) to keep up with its products and progress, and visit the MushroomVintageShop etsy page as well.
